If you‘re an adult with obesity, or with overweight and at least one weight-related medical problem, here‘s what you need to know about using the once-weekly Wegovy^® pen, along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, to help you lose weight and keep it off.

Wegovy^® comes in a prefilled pen and is used once a week. Use exactly as your healthcare professional has shown you.

5 steps for using your Wegovy^® pen

1. PREPARE FOR THE INJECTION

• Get your supplies together in one place: you‘ll need your Wegovy^® pen, 1 alcohol swab or soap and water, 1 gauze pad or cotton ball, and an FDA-approved sharps container for the used Wegovy^® pen
• Wash your hands
• Check your Wegovy^® pen

Do not use the pen if:

• It appears to have been used
• Any part appears broken
• The Wegovy^® medicine is not clear and colorless through the pen window (air bubbles are normal)
• The expiration date (EXP) has passed

2. CHOOSE THE INJECTION SITE

Your healthcare professional can help you choose the injection site that is best for you.

• You may inject into your upper leg (front of the thigh), lower stomach (keep 2 inches away from your belly button), or upper arm—but make sure you can clearly see the pen window while injecting
• Do not inject into an area where the skin is tender, bruised, red, or hard. You should also avoid injecting into areas with scars or stretch marks
• You may inject into the same body area each week, but not in the exact same spot each time

Before taking Wegovy^®, clean your chosen injection site with an alcohol swab or soap and water.

Do not touch the injection site after cleaning. Allow the skin to dry before injecting.

3. REMOVE PEN CAP

• Pull the pen cap straight off your pen
• The needle is hidden, so you don’t have to see or handle it
• Just because you can’t see it, doesn't mean it isn’t there! Be careful not to push down on the needle cover to avoid needlestick injuries

4. INJECT YOUR WEGOVYR DOSE

Push the pen firmly against your skin and keep applying pressure.
You’ll know your injection has started when the yellow bar starts moving. If you don’t see it moving, press the pen more firmly against your skin.
The injection should take about 5-10 seconds.
Don’t stop after 2 clicks. You will hear 2 clicks during the injection.

5. SAFELY THROW AWAY THE PEN

After injecting your Wegovy^® dose, do not throw away the pen in your household trash or recycling bin. Instead, use either

• An FDA-cleared sharps disposal container
• A sturdy household container with a tight-fitting lid, like a heavy-duty plastic container. Make sure to write on the container that there is hazardous waste inside.

What if blood appears after the injection?

If blood appears at the injection site, press lightly with a gauze pad or cotton ball.

Let’s talk Wegovy^® pen dosing

For weight loss in adults, your healthcare professional will start you on the 0.25 mg once-weekly dose and gradually increase the dose once every 4 weeks until you reach your maintenance dose.

Important instructions for using the Wegovy^® pen

Taking Wegovy^®

• The injection should be given once weekly, on the same day each week, at any time of day
• You can use Wegovy^® with or without food
• Wegovy^® is injected under the skin (subcutaneously) of your stomach (abdomen), thigh, or upper arm. Do not inject Wegovy^® into a muscle (intramuscularly) or vein (intravenously)
• You can inject in the same body area each week. Just make sure not to use the same spot

Missing a dose

• If the next scheduled dose is more than 2 days away (48 hours), take the missed dose as soon as possible
• If the next scheduled dose is less than 2 days away (48 hours), skip that dose and take your next dose on the regularly scheduled day
• If it‘s been 2 or more weeks (14 days) since your last dose, take the next dose on the regularly scheduled day or talk with your healthcare professional about how to restart your treatment 


Increasing your dose

• Increase your dose only when directed by your healthcare professional
• You may need to stay at one dose for longer than 4 weeks to give your body more time to get used to the medicine
• Your healthcare professional will monitor your progress at each dose

Gradually increasing your dose over time is done to help your body get used to the medicine. Before taking your next dose, let your healthcare professional know if you have any side effects that do not go away or that bother you.

Caring for your Wegovy^® pen

• Do not drop your pen or knock it against hard surfaces
• Do not expose your pen to any liquids
• If you think that your pen may be damaged, do not use it or try to fix it. Use a new pen
• To reduce the risk of infection, keep the pen cap on until you are ready to inject. Your pen will not be sterile if it is stored without the cap, if you pull the pen cap off and put it on again, or if the pen cap is missing
• Store the Wegovy^® pen in the fridge between 36 °F to 46 °F. Do not place in freezer. If you need, it can be stored from 46 °F to 86 °F in the original carton for up to 28 days

SET REMINDERS

Use phone alarms, medication apps, or sign up for text reminders from WeGoTogether^® to help you remember to take your dose. Plan to take your dose on the same day each week.

CREATE A ROUTINE

Connect the injection to a specific weekend activity, such as planning to give yourself the injection on Sunday morning before coffee or starting your day. Or, link it to a weekly chore, such as doing the laundry.

ROTATE SITES

Change where you inject each week. Injection sites include your upper leg, lower stomach, or upper arm.

GET HELP

If you‘re not comfortable giving yourself the injection, ask a friend or family member who is trained to use Wegovy^® pen for some help.
